Choosing thin section bearings: series, interchange and when to specify sealed 2RS

A practical guide from our bearings division: KA–KG cross-sections, bore-to-OD ratios, interchange with common series and when sealed variants save you a machine stoppage.

Why thin section

Thin section bearings keep the same cross-section as the bore grows, so a 12" bore bearing can weigh a fraction of a conventional one. Under load the rings must stay geometrically perfect — which is why grinding, heat treatment and inspection matter more than in standard bearings.

Reading the series

KB-A (0.25"), KB-B (0.3125"), KB-C (0.375"), KB-D (0.5"), KB-F (0.75") and KB-G (1") are cross-section widths; each series interchanges dimensionally with the KA–KG designations used across the industry. Pick the smallest cross-section that carries your load with margin.

Sealed KB-U 2RS

Textile and packaging machinery live in lint and dust. The 2RS sealed variants keep lubricant in and contamination out, extending service intervals; specify them where a bearing change means stopping a line.

Rotary printing repeat bearings

The 640, 820, 914 and 1018 repeat sizes support rotary screens; coaxial concentricity is what decides print quality, so ask for inspection reports with every batch.
